2014 Resolution Check In

New Year’s resolutions are always tricky.  People start to have these diet and exercise goals that are over the top, they make crazy life statements and stress themselves out if/when they don’t achieve them.  I eliminate all of that and just go with food resolutions. Yes, that’s right…resolutions that have to deal with my love for food.  And I don’t mean I make resolutions surrounding what I will not eat anymore or how I can ‘get fit’ by eating more or less of something.  I make my food resolutions fun and somewhat attainable.

The question is: am I really keeping up with them?

In January, I shared my food resolutions for this year.  Here’s how we’re holding up:

I wanted to always keep a bottle of champagne in my refrigerator for celebratory moments and cocktails. I tried, then I made mimosas. So. Yeah. There’s still time for me to redeem myself with this.

Make lemon curd – nope. Tried this for 2013 too. Still haven’t achieved this.

Faux pho – yeah, no.

Learn more about food styling and photography – ding, ding ding!  This one, I’m accomplishing.  I’ve attended food styling and photography workshops with, Running With Tweezers, Tartlette and Local Milk

Purchase more books on food (not cookbooks) – eh, sort of. John bought me a cool book on little pies so, that counts, right?

Find more food & lifestyle blogs to connect with – I think I’ve done that. There’s still room for more.  Check out: Karis’ Vegetarian Kitchen, Chattavore and Kitchen 1204.

Experiment with new cocktails – definitely. I haven’t purchased the lavender simple syrup that I mentioned in the original post but I think I’ve done a great job making my own simple syrups and buying other random items for cocktail creations.  I have a hibiscus syrup that I can’t wait to use!

How are your New Year’s resolutions holding up?

My two main resolutions this year are to buy more local goods (check!) and to host monthly dinner parties using recipes from Mastering the Art of French Cooking (a little behind, but 5 down so far).

One of my other hopes was to be more a part of the creative community. So happy we connected and could make that a reality for both of us!
