Angel Food Churro Bites

Angel food churro bites are an easy dessert that can be whipped up quickly for a party or dessert.

When I was younger, I remember taking trips to Sam’s Club and sampling a variety of different foods while shopping. That store always has so much to try and sample and unfortunately, not all of it is enjoyable. One thing I remember very vividly at Sam’s Club is tasting the churros. We didn’t even take many trips to Sam’s Club but when we did, churros were necessary if I was going to survive the visit. I think Sam’s Club is responsible for my love of churros.

It’s rare and difficult for me to find churros where I live (unless I’m not looking in the right places) but that doesn’t change my love for them. The fact that I don’t eat them often only makes my experience even more gratifying when I am able to find them. One of my closest friends celebrated her 30th birthday last month and I was charged with bringing some type of dessert. After a boozy brunch, we settled on churros because everyone loves them. I found an easy recipe that mirrors the taste of a “real” churro without all of the hard work…I was almost shocked at how much the angel food tasted like the real thing.

These churro bites are the perfect size but be careful or you'll eat the entire batch.

What you’ll need:

Store bought angel food cake (I used a Publix bakery cake)
Vegetable oil
Cinnamon sugar

What you do:

Cube the cake and heat vegetable oil in a pan.

Brown cake cubes on each side until it’s a beautiful golden brown color.

When each piece is done, immediately dredge in the cinnamon and sugar mixture to coat. Repeat these steps until all of the pieces are complete.

If you love churros but have no idea how to make them, these angel food churro bites are the perfect way to get your churro fix without having to make them from scratch.

They’re like perfect little squares of cinnamon goodness. I probably ate more of these than I was supposed to while making them but I had to taste-test them before taking them to my friend’s house, right? I was honestly so surprised at how close to churros they taste.

Also, frying angel food cake literally makes your house smell like heaven. Now I know why angels eat them.

churro bites can be served on a cake stand and added to any dessert bar. Goes great with ice cream too!
